All six SMI Lab students attended the 22nd IACS CSR-H practical training course, held at Inha Technical College and run by the Ship and Offshore Plant Structure Research Committee of the Society of Naval Architects of Korea, with support from the Korean Register. The course applied the Harmonised Common Structural Rules to an Aframax tanker midship section using KR SeaTrust-HullScan.

Professor Jae Hoon Seo has been appointed an editorial board member of the International Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering for the term from July 2026 to July 2028. The journal ranks fifth among 25 journals in the Engineering, Marine category.

The lab celebrated Teachers' Day for the first time.
Six undergraduate researchers joined the SMI Lab during 2025: Jun Soo Lim, Kyusung Shim, Jinwoo Song, Woojin Lee, Jun Hyeok Hwang, and Hui Won Lee. Their work spans propeller–ice interaction, fracture mechanics, dynamic power cables, ultimate strength, mooring-chain fatigue, and engineering critical assessment.
Professor Seo has been appointed to Specialist Committee V.4 — Offshore Renewable Energy of the International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress for 2025–2028, representing the Republic of Korea.

Professor Seo attended the 22nd International Ship and Offshore Structures Congress in Wuxi, China, as an observer representing the Republic of Korea.

Professor Seo chaired the Naval Vessel Integrated Survivability / Damage Control / Special Performance session at MADEX 2025 in Busan.

Inha University published an interview with Professor Seo about his personal story and the contributions he hopes to make to the university community.

Professor Seo presented "Development of a Machine Learning Model for Real-Time Monitoring of FOWT Mooring Systems" at the Korean Society of Ocean Engineers meeting in Busan.

Professor Seo was interviewed about US Navy Secretary John Phelan's visit to Korean shipyards and commented on strategic shipbuilding cooperation between South Korea and the USA.

Professor Seo's greeting as a new faculty member was published in the March 2025 issue of SNAKZINE.
